Notes, Reflections, and Interesting Occurrences During our Experiences at Okinawa, 1945 Mar. 26-June 3.

Sailor's account of his tour of the South Pacific en route to Japan, 26 Mar.-3 June 1945, "Notes, Reflections, and Interesting Occurrences During our Experiences at Okinawa," (unbound volume) recounting Moore's experiences as a quartermaster aboard U.S. Navy Landing Ship Medium Rocket 193 ["U.S.S. LSM (R)"], equipped with a five-inch gun and 480 rocket launchers, one of twelve built in Charleston, S.C. The volume combines diary entries describing the trip from Hawaii to Okinawa, with later comments and includes a description of the attack of 11 May 1945, upon the destroyer USS Hadley. Moore's describes this volume as "a series of notes and commentaries that contain no vital or secret material. Most are concerned with the landings, patrols, and activities during the Okinawa operations...." Although Moore began this volume as a diary, daily entries ended by mid-April 1945 after "too much activity halted them... when the only things that began to seem important were sleep, food, and life itself." Includes "Action Report - Battle of Okinawa, 11 May 1945," dated 13 May 1945; and map (photograph composite), 1944, showing terrain of "Naha Se, Ryukyu-Retto" Okinawa. Filed with booklet, Welcome to Australia [ca. 1940s], issued to servicemen re customs of Australia.
